[POEM] Uncut 1st WUNC Piece
Airports
are strange social Frankensteins
patchwork quilts sewn together tightly by stewardess fingertips
the floors are covered in nursing home carpeting and hospital hallway tiles
a sterile stench reminiscent of Dentist offices lingers
through the metals detectors
and past security guards dressed like Mall cops
their expressions shoplifted from the faces
of Walmart employees
But there are no...

If you could speak directly with an Egyptian, what would you want to ask them? Send us your questions by emailing us or commenting below, and every week we will choose one or two...

Glimpses of Cairo and Poetry From the Balcony
No matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to keep from staying up late at night here. The air is so much cooler after dark and we are always so anxious to write, update our social media pages, review footage, set up upcoming meetings and interviews, and stare off of our balcony into the lights of Cairo. The poem at the end of this post was a freewrite from Hussein’s apartment balcony. Every...

Interviews, Markets, and Taxis
So first I’m just gonna go ahead and throw this out there: I’m not good at writing real blog posts, so instead, I’m just gonna resort to my friendly neighborhood bullet-points.
-This week we met up with AUC’s University On the Square, an organization that is dedicated to collecting an archive of oral histories from the Revolution
-We also met up and interviewed Habib (who...

PPR Makes it to Tahrir
PPR is fully awake and rolling! After some intense sleep sessions to recover from our near 3 day journey to make it to Cairo, we are diving into the project. On Saturday we worked on our first poem for WUNC, an introduction to the project, our travels, and the deeper purpose of our journey. Be on the lookout for more updates! We also ventured out into the ocean of traffic that is downtown Cairo....

Arrival and First Impressions
We made it! And the trip went smoothly, just a brief layover in Amsterdam and then we were on to Cairo. Sameer’s cousins picked us up at the airport and on the drive home they took us past the charred remains of the old party headquarters, as well as the Qasr Al Nil bridge and Tahrir where many of the largest protests took place. Cairo is massive! It is filled with towering buildings that seem...
